A few weeks ago Michael and I took a quick trip to NYC. We had the absolute best time together in the city.
It was our second time to visit to New York together. In college, we took a trip over our Christmas break with some friends and my sister. I should really dig up some pictures.
This trip was just as much fun!
We started out our trip by dropping into Whole Foods for wheat grass shots and sushi. I was amazed by how large the store was...any by how many people(& babies) were there. Now, that store is a good spot for people watching, which is one of my favorite past times.
We did it all; we went to the Central Park Zoo, ice skating in Wollman Rink, the Museum of Modern Art, Mamma Mia!, and walked just about everywhere. It was extremely cold the first day we were there(~20F) and snowed the second day. It was so nice just to explore the city without a plan, schedule or agenda. And there is something refreshing about walking around the city in a huge warm jacket with freezing air lapping your face. Maybe it was just refreshing to be on vacation.
A restaurant recommendation: Scalinatella risorante @ 201 East 61st Street, Corner of 3rd Ave. Excellent! But save it for a special occasion. It is the type of restaurant where you can spend more money than you think very easily. Oppsie. Anyway, it was totally worth it. We were recommended the restaurant from a bartender in Times Square. She said it was a "real" Italian restaurant with "real" Italian waiters and chefs who even had accents. Sounded authentic to us. We were sold and immediately called for reservations. The restaurant was underground in an old cellar with brick walls and was very dimly lit. Definitely a sweet romantic setting. Sure enough, I could hardly understand our waiter due to his thick Italian accent. They served us homemade bread and sauteed mushrooms upon arriving at the table. For appetizers we ordered the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes. Michael ordered the Lamb and I ordered the Chilean Sea bass. Yummy. Scalintella is definitely a place that will be remembered and hopefully revisited.
So that is out trip in a nutshell. Check out the pics below.
